All Hail Big Brother!

I’d be careful about picking your nose in public, especially in Middlesbrough, England.
Loudspeakers have been attached to seven of the 158 CCTV cameras that pepper the city as a “crime deterrent” initiative. Instead of helplessly witnessing crimes as they happen, police can now ineffectually yell at the non-caring perpetrators.

I struggle with this…1984 vs real crime prevention. I don’t really want authorities watching over me every second, BUT, I also live in the most dangerous city in California. I think we’re close to 30 homicides this year (for a pop of 100k) and the police usually have NO leads on these cases.
I still think witnesses need to come forward and people in the community need to be more active. But in the meantime, some camera on a street corner might actually capture a murderer on camera.
However, once that camera starts yelling, I think someone will shoot it. Seriously.
Can you imagine the “Reality TV” shows that will spawn from this?
“Those who will give up essential liberty for a little security deserve neither liberty nor security.” -Benjamin Franklin
Fear is a powerful impetus to remove liberty, always has been…don’t be the fool. Educate yourself and stand up for your rights.
Also, if you can, get a conceal and carry permit and wear it in your waistband if you are in the dark while holding your hand there conspicously…makes you less attractive of a target for would be robbers. All the cool kids are doing it in the hood.
(Just kidding…sort of.)
