Windows Vista Not Ready for Photographers

Apparently Windows Vista’s tagging system will destroy a photo’s metadata.  That’s a pretty big deal, especially if you’re like me and have 150 to 160 GB of photos all meticulously tagged with tons of metadata for sorting and finding.

That’s too bad.  I was beginning to give Vista the benefit of a doubt, but the fact that I just happen to dabble in photography seals the deal for me for a long while.  That being said, I’m sure Microsoft will be scrambling to fix this.

  1. That sucks!!!

MS Vista Fanboy to the rescue!!!

Vista is not for everyone, but one poster in the same article made a good point,

    L.M. Lloyd says:

“You know, this is really getting old! Name me one OS that hasn’t had problems in the first month or two it launched? Don’t even try saying OS X doesn’t have problems with each new launch, because the original OS X launch was an absolute disaster, and every single major revision has brought some sort of problem with some application. I can remember different versions of OS X causing all kinds of havoc with Media 100s and Avids until they got out a patch to support the new OS. Even Apple’s own applications (like Final Cut) sometimes have to be updated after they update the OS.

This is pretty standard fare, and exactly why anyone with half a brain doesn’t run out and install the newest OS the day it is released. It just takes time for everyone to get on the same page and start supporting it, and you are just asking for headaches if you jump to a new OS before it is officially supported by the software and hardware vendors you use.”

According to L.M. Lloyd, I apperently have less than half a brain.

You have to admit there are reasons for Early Adopters, as myself. Early Adopters suffer thru the 1st year to help the rest of you PC & MAC Users. Cuz, sooner or later you’ll have to replace your aging hardware and you’ll have to switch, be it Vista or OS X. Hopefully by then your OS of choice will be “Bug Free” and you can thank those “Early Adopters” for that. Also, let me be the first to say “You’re Welcome” =D

  2. Also, the Tagging thing. Doesn’t Adobe Bridge take care of your tagging needs anyways. Just don’t use Vista to edit your Metadata.

    Once again Disaster Averted.

    Thank you MS Vista Fanboy!!!
