Top 5 Reasons to Not Buy Into Blu Ray

Well, let’s revisit the first 3 Reasons

1)      Freedom & Spyware

2)      Internet Connection Required

3)      Software Faults & Cracks

What do these 3 Reasons have in common? They describe a Network Connected Blu Ray Player.

Well… there are options out there. Actually there are Three; Panasonic, Samsung & Sony

Panasonic DMP-BD10

Samsung DB-P1000

Sony BDP-S1

All three are Network Connection Free.

Sony is the big surprise because, of these three companies, Sony is the Biggest Proponent of the Blu Ray Format. And everybody knows Sony’s past history on Content Protection

Innovative Use of Sony PS3’s “Eye Toy”

Filed under: Games and Gaming, Science and Technology — Mike @ 1:15 am

Now this looks promising.  It’s a card-based game with actual cards.  Along the same vein as Yu-Gi-Oh and… and… whatever, you participate in a battle against an opponent using cards to summon monsters and cast spells.  The twist here is the use of the PLAYSTATION Eye.  Graphical representations of the creatures you control are super-imposed on top of the cards themselves when viewed on TV.

That’s pretty awesome.

Carbon Off-set

Filed under: Science and Technology, Uncategorized — xraytech @ 11:34 pm

The in thing is to Go Green but it’s kinda hard to do if you drive a Hummer to work every day. So to offset your environmental transgressions, buy one of these.

Basically, proceeds from the sale of “Terra Passes” are invested in renewable energy projects like Wind Farms. The theory is, these projects will eventually off-set your carbon emission activities.

I tried the on-line calculator for my car and according to the site:

1998 VW Bug = 4793lbs CO2/Year

To offset that, I can buy a $29.95 Terra Pass.

MacRumors: Buyer’s Guide

If you’re planning on making a purchase in the near future for an Apple product (like an iPod or a MacBook Pro), you might want to check out MacRumors: Buyer’s Guide first.  They’ve compiled a list of Apple’s major products and an estimation of their product lifecycles.

So the hard drive on my laptop is starting to fail.  I’m taking that as a sign to finally make the leap to the light side. ;)  Of course, according to MacRumors, the MacBook Pro is near the end of its lifecycle, so I’ll have to wait a little bit longer. ;)

Never before seen “Mythbusters” footage

Not “Aired” in the US because of the subject matter.

The two Myths,

“Do pretty girls pass gas?”

and

“Can you ingnite a Flatus (a.k.a. Fart)?”

“Mythbusters” fold a piece of paper more than 7 times…

 Britney Gallivan did it…

But the Mythbusters trumps Britney…

Is this the cure for your Home Theater Blues?

Filed under: Geeks and Gadgetry, Reviews — xraytech @ 7:47 pm

I sure hope so, cuz my Home Owners Association will not let me cut into the walls to install my Rear Surround Sound Speakers.

A wired set-up is the ideal but I have no way of concealing those ugly speaker wires.

The Right Number

Filed under: General — Mike @ 6:34 pm

Scott McCloud, author of Making Comics and proponent of the micro-payment system, just released a novella in a very interesting form.

The Right Number is a projected three part online graphic novella about math, sex, obsession and phone numbers presented in an unusual zooming format. Click above to read Parts One and Two. (Part Three will hopefully be completed and available before too long.)
