The Right Number
Scott McCloud, author of Making Comics and proponent of the micro-payment system, just released a novella in a very interesting form.
The Right Number is a projected three part online graphic novella about math, sex, obsession and phone numbers presented in an unusual zooming format. Click above to read Parts One and Two. (Part Three will hopefully be completed and available before too long.)
Music++
Christopher Raphael has developed a computer-based music accompaniment system (dubbed Music Plus One) that can adjust to the dynamic and rhythmic nuances of a human musician. Unlike your normal “Minus-One” karaoke tapes, the musician isn’t explicitly led by the nose by the computer. Rather, the computer listens to the musician and makes adjustments on the fly like an actual accompanist.
Check out his site and give a listen to his samples. Pretty neat stuff.
Looks like I’ll be out of a job as an accompanist fairly soon.
Rachmaninov Had Big Hands
That’s why some of his pieces are physically impossible for some pianists to play. Luckily this pianist is pretty innovative.
