Getting Things Done Productively

I’m a big fan of being productive.  I’m also a big fan of procrastination.  So there’s nothing like procrastinating from doing real work by doing a bunch of research on how to be more productive.  The irony is just delicious.

Lifehacker has a great article on applying the “Getting Things Done” philosophy using Google Notebook.  I haven’t read the book yet, but there’s been enough buzz to pique my interest.  I’m sure that mixing this method along with Steve Palina’s 33 Rules to Boost Your Productivity is a step in the right direction.

String Tripod

Man, why didn’t I think of this?  A string bi/tri/monopod.  Sure, it doesn’t replace the stability of an actual tripod or monopod, but it sure as is more compact and mobile.  Simple principle, too: By introducing an opposing force, your muscles don’t have to worry about stabilization along multiple axes–you just worry about pulling against the string.

NASA Asks the Tough Questions

With the prospect of a manned mission to Mars, NASA is starting to ask the hard questions.

  • How do you get rid of the body of a dead astronaut on a three-year mission to Mars and back?
  • When should the plug be pulled on a critically ill astronaut who is using up precious oxygen and endangering the rest of the crew?
  • Should NASA employ DNA testing to weed out astronauts who might get a disease on a long flight?
  • How do you cope with sexual desire among healthy young men and women during a mission years long?

Yeah, that last question?  Send eunuchs. :)

Wireless Power from Plastic Sheet

What you see pictured above is a lit lightbulb inside a goldfish bowl.  The lightbulb is getting it’s power wirelessly from the plastic sheet underneath the goldfish bowl.  That’s pretty nifty technology there.  right now, it’s limited to 40 to 50 watts, but that should be good for all those gadgets you have.  Imagine being able to just leave your toys on your desk… all that charging and no wires.
