How Much Would You Spend on Speaker Cables?

James Randi is offering a cool $1 million to anyone who can prove that $7,250 “Anjou” 12-foot audio cables are better than “ordinary” Monster Cables. Anyone *cough*Joe*cough* up to the challenge?
$7,250 for cables? Geebus.

Define “better”… Monster cable has long time been a joke among audio geeks. You’re only paying for the marketing hype. Same goes for these Pear bums.
The article sums it up pretty well, actually. Audio requires so little bandwidth, that most of those testing parameters are irrelevant. We use what we call “vacuum cleaner cable” for our audio here at MDS (ie, the power cables you’d use on a vacuum cleaner power cord).
Yup, he summed it up pretty well. High-end, fancy audio cable is usually a waste of money. There are certain things you do want to watch out for, like low quality connectors that can break, the coating can corrode or flake off, etc. Generally build quality issue, basically. But $7000 for a 12′ cable? No way. I hesitate when even paying $70 for a 12′ cable. (We’ll just ignore the fact that my entire audio system and studio at home both use AudioQuest interconnects on everything.)
