Bicycle Escalator

I can imagine this being pretty useful for some of those inclines in San Francisco.

In San Fran, they could utilize the existing cable car lines. The trick would be having the foot rest recede back under the street after being used, since you don’t want little metals plates sticking out of the cable tracks, moving around the city where cars could run over them.
Oh oh oh… invention alert! Make removeable foot plates you can carry with you. Just drop it into the cable slot when you need a lift. Remove it when you’re done. Make them from plastic so if they do get left on the track and run over, they’d just snap and break rather than damage a car tire.
