Who Needs Sleep?

If Orexin A (the hormone that “reduces sleepiness without causing edginess”) became available as an over-the-counter nasal spray, would you try it?
The monkeys were deprived of sleep for 30 to 36 hours and then given either orexin A or a saline placebo before taking standard cognitive tests. The monkeys given orexin A in a nasal spray scored about the same as alert monkeys, while the saline-control group was severely impaired.

I would *absolutely* love to have something like this, provided there are no harmful or long-term side effects. I really don’t like the fact that I have to waste my time sleeping each night, so being able to make back at least some of that time would be a boon for me (and my extensive book-reading habit).
