A fellow reader mentioned an instrument called a ”Theremin” on a recent post.

Wow!!!

You can find anything on YouTube these days

  1. Joe - I particularly like the 2nd composition. It’s such an interesting instrument. Thanks for finding these videos.

You said you have one yourself. Was it hard to learn?

  2. Hi, Jenny! That 2nd song is one of the main themes from a video game called Final Fantasy X.

Also, this is a group blog, so the videos were found by xraytech.

    Joe, you have a theremin?!

  3. Ah, thanks Mike, I didn’t realize.

Is Final Fantasy a cool game? Sounds fun. I’m obviously not up on all video games. :)

I’m still wanting to hear about Joe’s personal theremin experience too.

  4. Final Fantasy has a long standing history in video game. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it is definitely a standard for a particular genre of video gaming today. Great music was borne of this series.

Another contributor, radium226, was able to play with a Theremin at the Maker Faire. Maybe he can chime in, too?

  6. Yes Mike! Check out the Paia Corporation website. They make very inexpensive build-it-yourself kits for just about any cool, analog type of synth you could want. I have their Theremin kit, and their Fatman analog synth kit.
