Check out the Paia Corporation website. They make very inexpensive build-it-yourself kits for just about any cool, analog type of synth you could want. I have their Theremin kit, and their Fatman analog synth kit.

It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it is definitely a standard for a particular genre of video gaming today. Great music was borne of this series.
