G.I. Joe: Resolute
Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim has a series reboot of G.I. Joe that is definitely not the G.I. Joe from my childhood. Case in point, in the screenshot above you see the lifeless body of Bazooka. That’s a grab from the first episode!
Now I’m fervently waiting for reboots of He-Man and Care Bears.
Thanks for the tip, Joe!

Lens Envy

The Sigma 200-500 f/2.8 EX DG is a monster lens. To hand-hold this 35 lb. monster is nuts. The photographer above was just proving that he could (though he admits that this isn’t the best way to take photos with this lens):
I always handhold my Canon 600 f/4 IS and some time ago I was asked if I can handhold the Sigma monster…yes, I can
but obviously it is just for fun; I can handhold it just for few minutes, and I need very fast SS to get sharp photos. The photos taken during the test had been taken on the sturdy Gitzo tripod.

The New Way of the Samurai?
I’m amazed by this swordsman’s skill, but I’m saddened that the term “samurai” is being redefined by popular japanese culture as just being skillful with a sword.

World’s Largest Piano
From Make:
Adrian Mann has built what’s being called the world’s largest piano, measuring in at over 18.5 feet long! He began work on the project at the age of 16 and continued construction in a local barn over the next four years. It seems all his hard work was worth it considering the instruments commanding voice.
Man, I wasted my youth.
Nice find, Irwin!
Lala: Your Music + Interwebs = Awesome

I’m sure that many of you have pondered about the mechanics of making your personal music collection readily available on the interwebs. Lala provides a pretty slick solution: It scans your music collection and matches that against the 6m+ licensed songs already on its servers. If it finds a match, you’re done. If not, you can upload your mp3. The scanning process is still a pretty time-consuming one, but I’m already impressed by the ease of this site.
This sure beats sneaking in a portable hard drive to work to offload my mp3s.
Thanks for the tip, Reggie!
Composite Photos of New Yorkers

Amazing work. Lots of patience and love went into this project.
From Boing Boing:
Dan sez, “Danish photographer Peter Funch stakes New York City street corners out for two weeks at a time, taking pictures of passersby from the very same spot. He then uses Photoshop to composite the results into single images. I love the mass of yawners.”

The Internet Symphony
One of the best uses of the Internet I’ve seen thus far.
YouTube presents the world premiere of the Tan Dun composition “Internet Symphony, Eroica” as selected and mashed up from thousands of video submissions from around the globe.
Uncomfortable Plot Summaries
Some of your favorite movies and TV shows summarized into a single sentence (or two).
Some examples:
- ALIENS: An unplanned pregnancy leads to complications.
- BATMAN: Wealthy man assaults the mentally ill.
- STAR TREK: Over-sexed officer routinely places crew in danger.
- STAR WARS – EMPIRE STRIKES BACK: Boy is abused by midget, kisses sister, attempts patricide.
Warning… some strong language is present if that bothers you.
The Conficker Eye Chart – Are You Infected?

Here’s a brilliant little litmus test to see if your computer is infected with the nasty Conficker virus. Here’s the gist:
The site is simple but brilliant. Conficker blocks access to some 100 security web sites, and the eye chart displays images from several of those sites. If your browser loads with the right configuration of dead images, then there’s a very good chance you’re computer’s infected—meaning it’s time you rid your self of the Conficker worm.
