people often ask me about elevator
pitches so this is something as a career
coach I work with individuals on before
we go into some tips and strategies on
how to create a good elevator pitch what
is an elevator pitch elevator pitch is
60 to 90 seconds sometimes a little bit
longer depending on the setting is
essentially an opportunity for you to
talk to your audience whoever that may
be so one of the things that I work with
with individuals as a career coach is to
help them perfect their elevator pitch
one thing to keep in mind is it’s not a
pitch about your CV or your titles it’s
really an opportunity for you to
showcase who you are why you do what you
do and what is your overall goal in that
particular area or conversation that
you’re having here are three tips to
help you create your elevator pitch
number one share your story so talk
about a bit about who you are and why
you do what you do and your overall
passion and mission this is not perhaps
talking about your titles or your CV but
really just about why is it that you do
what you do what makes you unique in
your particular area of work number two
do your homework so who we use who are
you going to be speaking with the
elevator pitch can change depending on
the audience so keep in mind are you
speaking to a CEO / company or is an HR
representative or recruiter or perhaps
it’s just a future potential business
contact keep in mind who is your
audience and do your homework
and number three what is the goal of
this elevator pitch is it again to get
an interview is it to have another chat
is it to get an opportunity for
connection or perhaps a business contact
keep in mind of the goal and tailor your
discussion around that the only way to
get good at elevator pitches is to
practice them so start with practicing
with yourself in the mirror then perhaps
practice with your friends and family so
that when you’re on the right and in
front of the person that you really want
to sell yourself to you’ll be ready
