How to Declutter

 Projects Crawlspace Basement-Junk Basement-Junk

I’m a somewhat recovering pack rat in the sense that I don’t collect useless items. Getting rid of the current junk is getting tougher, though. I found 15 Great Decluttering Tips at Zen Habits.

Has anyone tried any of these methods? Do you have anything to add to this list? I especially love the “one in, two out” rule:

The rule: whenever you bring in an item, you have to throw away two other items. First you cheat, by throwing out two pieces of paper, but soon you will have to move to big stuff.

  1. I think I got the “Pack Rat” gene from my mom. I just can’t get rid of anything. Multiply that by the fact that I love new shinny gadgets and in no time I’m waist deep in junk that I really don’t need.

Tips are great but it boils down to just doing it. Even if it means getting rid of something that you really need.

But the one tip I do like, “One in, Two Out” I think I’ll try that.
