Prisons Reaching Critical Mass
Many states are considering “releasing tens of thousands of convicts from prison, including drug addicts, thieves and even violent criminals” in order to offset “huge budget gaps brought on by the slumping economy.” Anybody else worried about this besides me?
From Yahoo News:
Police officer Tori-Lynn Heaton (pictured above) is seen at her home in West Greenwich, R.I., March 31, 2008. Lawmakers across the country are debating plans to grant early release to criminals as a way for cash-strapped states to try to close budget gaps. Heaton, whose ex-husband previously spent time in prison for beating her but who would have been eligible for early release under Rhode Island’s current proposal, opposes early release programs in order to protect the safety of crime victims.
